TierraCloud Announces S3 API support for HC2 Open-Source Private Cloud Storage Software

S3 APIs will allow applications written to work with Amazon S3 to also work with private cloud storage implementations that use HC2

DALLAS, October 13, 2010 – SNW Fall 2010, The Gaylord Texan -- TierraCloud Technologies, Pvt. Ltd. announced today S3 API support for the HC2 open-source private cloud storage software project. These APIs will allow any application written to work with Amazon’s S3 public cloud storage to also run seamlessly with private cloud storage implementations that use HC2.

“Amazon S3 APIs are a de-facto standard for accessing cloud storage” said Sriram Rupanagunta, founder of TierraCloud. “Customers want applications written to work with Amazon’s S3 public cloud storage to seamlessly also work on their private cloud storage; moreover, users want to cloud-burst data between the two clouds based on policies. This announcement marks the first step in realizing this vision.”

As enterprises start to adopt web 2.0 style applications for internal use, users will expect a storage system that is scalable and reliable yet implemented on industry standard x86 servers using RESTful APIs. HC2 along with the S3 APIs is uniquely positioned to address this need. Users will now be able to implement a private cloud storage using industry standard x86 servers and the open-source HC2 software. Furthermore, they will be able to write a single application that works with Amazon S3 and also a private cloud storage implementation that uses HC2.

“As enterprises continue to migrate to the cloud for business-critical applications, they will only leverage the TCO benefits of cloud platforms that are seamlessly interoperable,” said Saqib Jang, Principal and Founder, Margalla Communications. “TierraCloud’s ability to enable the S3 API is a key step in the direction towards broad-based interoperability for HC2, which is a key decision metric for enterprises and cloud providers in choosing from a raft of cloud enabling technologies.”
